Maritime procession with relics of St. Alexander Nevsky arrives in Yalta (+VIDEO)

With the blessing of His Eminence Metropolitan Tikhon of Simferopol and Crimea, a maritime procession with relics of the Right-Believing Prince St. Alexander Nevsky arrived in Yalta last week.

The holy relics were taken to the city’s cathedral consecrated in honor of St. Alexander, reports the Metropolis of Crimea.

The procession is dedicated to the 300th anniversary of the transfer of the holy prince’s relics from the city of Vladimir to St. Petersburg, initiated by Tsar Peter I in honor of the end of the Northern War, thanks to which Russian entered the Baltic Sea and became a naval power.

The organization Orthodox St. Petersburg has been holding such sea processions for 15 years.

The procession last week also came on the eve of the feast of the Baptism of Rus’ and the opening of the New Chersonesos church-museum complex, and is dedicated to two holy princes: St. Vladimir and St. Alexander Nevsky. Their veneration symbolizes the continuity of the historical path of northern and southern Rus’.
