As it does every year, the Holy Synod of the Orthodox Church of Greece has again allocated hundreds of thousands of dollars for scholarships for Greek students studying abroad and parishioners of Sister Churches studying in Greece.

In total, $729,500 (660,000 euros) was allocated, to be divided amongst 56 Greek students taking graduate and doctoral courses abroad and 94 foreign students pursuing undergrad, graduate, and doctoral studies in theology and other fields in Greece in the 2024-2025 academic year, reports Romfea.

The scholarship were ceremoniously awarded following the Synod’s work yesterday.

The President of the Scholarship Subcommittee, Metropolitan Ignatius of Demetrias, stated that granting these scholarships is a long-standing tradition of the Church of Greece, contributing to pan-Orthodox unity. He noted that foreign students study the Greek language for one year at the Synod’s expense, which helps them delve into Scriptural and Patristic sources.

At the end of his greeting to the scholarship recipients, Archbishop Ieronymos, the primate of the Greek Church, wished them strength and success, so that the skills they will acquire may contribute to their spiritual progress and the improvement of their lives and those of their fellow human beings.
