Zelenov, Chernivtsi Province, Ukraine, September 12, 2024
Since it was created by Patriarch Bartholomew and the Ukrainian and U.S. governments in 2018, the schismatic “Orthodox Church of Ukraine” has been responsible for the violent seizure of hundreds of churches throughout Ukraine.
The latest such hate crime occurred in the Western Ukrainian village of Zelenov, Chernivtsi Province, on September 10, on the eve of the feast of the Beheading of St. John the Baptist, reports the canonical Diocese of Chernivtsi and Bukovina.
There, the schismatics seized the Church of the Archangel Michael. They used power tools to cut off the locks and knocked out a window to crawl through.
“This act moreso resembles barbarism than Christianity. Reflecting on the ‘coincidental’ seizure (abuse, if we may say so) of the church and the feast of the Beheading of John the Baptist, a parallel is involuntarily drawn with the daughter of Herodias—Salome, who asked for the Forerunner’s head to be cut off, and today's OCU supporters,” the diocese writes.
“Most likely, they don’t know the continuation of Salome and Herodias’ fate. May the Lord forgive them for they know not what they do,” the diocese said, commenting on the illegal action.
