Chernyakhov, Kiev Province, Ukraine, June 2, 2023
On Tuesday, May 30, schismatics from the Patriarchate of Constantinople’s “Orthodox Church of Ukraine” violently seized the Church of the Great Martyr Demetrios in a village of the Kiev Province, reports the Information-Education Department of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church.
According to the rector, Archpriest Mikhail Gluschak, the police on the scene did nothing to prevent the violent takeover, and in fact, as video from the incident shows, the police themselves used violence against Fr. Mikhail and parishioners, including elderly women.
In particular, Major Andrei Viktorovich Lisy, head of the Kiev Province police department, approached Fr. Mikhail from behind and forcibly dragged him off somewhere. Another policeman is seen pushing an elderly woman in the chest.
“The police personally used force against me. When I asked the investigative task force to let me into the church to pick up my personal belongings, they took me by the neck and dragged me off. The police helped them. They even used force against a 90-year-old babushka. They tried to force our other parishioners into a car to take them to the police station. Women were dragged off,” Fr. Mikhail commented.
According to eyewitnesses, Major Lisy is present at all church seizures in the Kiev Province.
Fr. Mikhail also noted that the schismatic clergy of the OCU have simply closed the church, not celebrating any services there.
