A new ministry has been founded by the Archdiocese of Thyateira and Great Britain of the Patriarchate of Constantinople targeted against human trafficking and human slavery.

The new office, based in London, will serve as a central hub for coordinating the Church’s efforts. It will gather and share information, organize events, and issue public statements to ensure a unified and impactful response, the Archdiocese reports.

The office will also function as an educational resource center, providing clergy and the broader community with training and materials to address these issues effectively. Monthly online seminars will keep global clergy and lay leaders informed about developments and best practices.

Additionally, the office will develop and distribute an educational resource book with theological and practical guidance. It will maintain a network of experts to represent the Church and influence policy.

This strategic initiative aims to strengthen the Church’s role in fighting modern slavery and protecting the vulnerable.

The new office was founded at the directive of Patriarch Bartholomew and will operate under the direct supervision of Archbishop Nikitas.

“The establishment of an office dedicated to combating human trafficking and modern slavery within the Archdiocese of Thyateira and Great Britain is not only a necessary step in fulfilling our Christian duty to protect the vulnerable but also a strategic move to position the Orthodox Church as a leader in this global fight,” the Archdiocese writes.

The Romanian Orthodox Church has also partnered with the Romanian National Agency Against Human Trafficking to raise awareness of the problem.
