Nanuet, New York, September 30, 2024
Earlier this month, the Russian Orthodox Church Outside of Russia’s Novo-Diveevo Convent in Nanuet, New York, celebrated its 75th anniversary.
The monastery was founded in 1949 by Fr. Andrei Rymarenko, who later became the Archbishop of Rockland.
Services in the monastery’s St. Seraphim Cathedral on September 13–14 were led by the First Hierarch of ROCOR His Eminence Metropolitan Nicholas, reports ROCOR’s Eastern American Diocese.
The Metropolitan was concelebrated in the Divine Liturgy by Archbishop Gabriel of Montreal, Bishop Luke of Syracuse, Bishop Jerome (Shaw), and Bishop Irinej of Eastern America (Serbian Orthodox Church), and local clergy.
The divine services were augmented by the presence of the wonderworking Hawaiian Iveron Icon of the Mother of God, brought by its guardian Fr. Nectarios Yangson. A moleben was served before the Icon at the end of the Liturgy.
The cathedral was filled to overflowing, with pilgrims listening to the service through loudspeakers outdoors.
Met. Nicholas congratulated all those present with the anniversary and encouraged them to “remain steadfast in their faith and preserve the legacy of those who built up the sacred convent walls.”
A Synodal gramota was presented to Abbess Makaria (Fadina).
A banquet was then held in the monastery refectory, with a photo exhibit on the monastery.
The monastery is home to an original portrait of St. Seraphim of Sarov painted during his lifetime, a Vladimir Mother of God Icon from Sts. Anatoly and Nektary of Optina, and a cross from the Ipatiev House in Ekaterinburg, where the Royal Martyrs were slain.
