Lyon, France, October 16, 2024
On October 13, one of the oldest parishes in the Moscow Patriarchate’s Western European Exarchate celebrated its 100th anniversary.
Celebrations at the Holy Protection Church in Lyon, France, were held on October 13 on the eve of the patronal feast. The Divine Liturgy was celebrated by His Eminence Metropolitan Nestor of Korsun and Western Europe with parish rector Fr. Sergei Kim as well as previous rectors and visit clergy from the Russian Orthodox Church Outside of Russia and the Bulgarian Patriarchate, reports the Korsun Diocese.
Following the service, Met. Nestor addressed those gathered in the church with an archpastoral word, in which he congratulated the clergy and parishioners of the church on the centenary of its foundation, and also presented episcopal certificates to the rector, warden, choir director, and members of the parish council.
Then, while offering the cross for veneration, the bishop presented each family with a gift of a two-volume edition about the Saints of Lyon, timed to coincide with the 100th anniversary of the Lyon parish and prepared for publication by the rector of the church, Fr. Sergei Kim.
A festive meal was arranged in the renovated refectory hall, part of which was occupied by an exhibition dedicated to the history of the Holy Protection parish.
