The brotherhood of the St. Job of Pochaev Monastery, formerly in Munich, held its first prayer service at its new residence in Günzburg, 70 miles to the northwest.
The joyous occasion fell on the monastery’s patronal feast, on November 10. On that day, the keys to the Seyfriedsberg Castle were officially transferred to the brotherhood, and the first moleben was held at the new property. The monastics were joined by about 500 pilgrims from all over Germany, the monastery reports.
In February 2021, OrthoChristian reported that the monastery was in desperate need of a new home, as its former property in Munich suffered from overcrowding, mold, and problems with the rapidly growing community around them. The monastery had been in Munich since 1945.

“A new chapter has begun both for Orthodoxy in Germany as a whole and for Seyfriedsberg Castle, which has been in disrepair for many years,” writes His Grace Bishop Job of Stuttgart, who was present at the event together with His Eminence Metropolitan Mark of Berlin.
The monks chose Seyfriedsberg Castle for its more remote location, though the building itself is in need of a good deal of renovation.
After the moleben and greetings, a small concert of the Munich Cathedral Choir was held in the lobby of the main building.
Bp. Job reports on the next steps for the monastery:
The key transfer marks the beginning of a new stage for us. In the coming weeks, we will draw up detailed diagrams of the premises and begin precise planning of work in the castle. This will allow us to determine which tasks should be completed in what time frame, and where we will need the help of volunteers.
