As Orthodox Christians around the world engage in charitable works during the Christmas season, the Moscow Patriarchate’s Diocese of Thailand and a Russian Orthodox parish in Brazil have continued their longstanding traditions of providing aid to the suffering and needy.

The faithful of the Diocese of Thailand donated gifts and aid to children suffering from cancer.

On December 16, 2024, the secretary of diocese, Archimandrite Oleg (Cherepanin), visited the oncology ward of the Queen Sirikit National Institute of Child Health in Bangkok to distribute gifts to the children and the hospital, the diocese reports.

More than 50 children received stuffed animals, and their parents received financial assistance.

The aid was collected at parishes of the diocese. Also, at the request of the medical staff, thermoses, water coolers, microwave ovens, and other necessary items were purchased for the hospital.

The medical staff and the families of the children expressed their heartfelt gratitude for the visit and for the assistance provided. This charity event has been held for 15 years in a row now.

Meanwhile, in Brazil, the Church of the Hodegetia Icon of the Mother of God in Brasilia, together with the Russian Embassy in Brazil, organized a charitable aid campaign for families in Nova Petrópolis, a locality in the mountainous Brazilian state of Goiás.

The church’s rector, Fr. Francisco Feitosa, and representatives of the diplomatic mission distributed the collected aid to those in need.

The parish has been providing assistance to the destitute and low-income people living in the vicinity of this municipality for 16 years now. On December 14, food packages were distributed to 61 families.
