Kiboga, Kiboga District, Uganda, December 25, 2024
A new church is being built in Uganda in honor of the Holy Hierarch and Wonderworker St. John (Maximovitch) of San Francisco.
On Monday, December 23, the Patriarchal Exarch of Africa of the Russian Orthodox Church Metropolitan Konstantin of Zaraysk visited the parish community in Kiboga and celebrated the Divine Liturgy.
The Metropolitan was concelebrated by the chairman of the Missionary Department of the Patriarchal Exarchate of Africa Fr. George Maximov, dean of the Central Church District Fr. Paul Balyeku, dean of the Eastern Church District and parish rector Hieromonk Silouan (Brown), and clergy of the Central Deanery, the Exarchate reports.
Before the service, Met. Konstantin celebrated the Baptism of four people.
After the Liturgy, he presented the parish with an icon of the Most Holy Theotokos. All faithful were given icons and crosses.
Then, Met. Konstantin served the rite of the blessing of the foundation stone for the future church dedicated to St. John, the great saint of America.
Hieromonk Silouan (Brown) is also the founder and head of the St. John the Wonderworker Orthodox Christian Mission Center in Kampala, which aims to create an economically independent and self-sufficient group of local leaders.
