A new publication from Uncut Mountain Press presents both the original Greek text and the English translation of the Supplicatory Canon to Our Venerable Father Ephraim of Philotheou and Arizona.

The press describes the importance of Elder Ephraim:

Elder Ephraim (1928-2019), an Athonite ascetic since 1948 and disciple of St. Joseph the Hesychast, became the abbot of Philotheou Monastery on Mt. Athos in 1973 and later repopulated three other Athonite monasteries as well as five women’s monasteries in Greece, being renowned as a holy man and discerning spiritual father. Elder Ephraim first came to Canada in 1979 for health reasons, but responding to the spiritual needs of the Orthodox in America, he came every year confessing and guiding souls, eventually founding seventeen monasteries, including St. Anthony’s Monastery in Florence, Arizona, where he settled permanently. Elder Ephraim fell asleep in the Lord on the 7th of December 2019.

The canon was written by Dr. Haralambos Bousias, who has composed numerous divine services, supplicatory canons, and other hymns in honor of the saints of our day, and bears the title of “Great Hymnographer of the Church of the Alexandrians.”

The Supplicatory Canon to Our Venerable Father Ephraim of Philotheou and Arizona can be purchased on the Uncut Mountain Press site.
