Gospel of Mark published in Siberian Tatar language

Photo: ibtrussia.org Photo: ibtrussia.org The Moscow-based Institute for Bible Translation has released a new edition in the Siberian Tatar language.

The publication of the Gospel of Mark marks the first time a New Testament book has been published in the language in full, reports the Institute, which is dedicated to translating the Scriptures into the languages of the non-Slavic peoples of Russia.

Previously, selected parables from the Gospel of Luke were published, as well as the Old Testament books of Jonah, Ruth, and Esther.

The Siberian Tatars are primarily located in several regions in Western Siberia, with an estimated population of about 101,000. The Siberian Tatar language is part of the Turkic language family. It differs from Tatar and Bashkir through its archaic vowel system.

The Institute for Bible Translation’s publications in Siberian Tatar are available for download online.
