After His Resurrection, it was women who first encountered the risen Christ. This fact was a scandal to early Christians, but it points to the new and elevated status afforded to women in the Church. The authentic dignity of woman, when properly understood, stands in direct contrast to the image and values proposed by modern feminism.
Fr. Heers also addresses the fearfulness of the Apostles after Jesus’ death. It is not possible to be fearful and be a Christian. We must behave with the boldness of Joseph of Arimathea, who dared to approach Pilate to claim Jesus’ body. We must behave with the trust of the Myrrh-Bearing Women, who went to the tomb despite the fact that they knew they would not have been able to roll back the stone themselves. We need to honestly evaluate ourselves—do we have this trust in God’s protection?
