St. Nektarios of Aegina is one of the most beloved and venerated saints throughout Greece and the entire Orthodox world.

His life is a high example of holiness to be emulated by the faithful, and he is known as a great wonderworker, both during his lifetime and after his repose. The monastery he founded on the Greek island of Aegina, which is also home to his precious relics, is a popular place of pilgrimage for the Orthodox faithful.

Over the past week, hierarchs from two Sister Local Churches made this pilgrimage to seek the blessing and intercession of the great St. Nektarios.

His Eminence Metropolitan Ilarion of Bregalnica of the Macedonian Orthodox Church-Ohrid Archbishop and his entourage visited the monastery on May 7 and 8, his diocese reports.

Back in North Macedonia, Met. Ilarion consecrated church in Štip in honor of St. Ilarion of Meglen and St. Nektarios and served the Hierarchical Divine Liturgy on Sunday, May 11. The Metropolitan presented the church with a new icon of the Greek wonderworker and Holy Hierarch painted by the nuns of the monastery on Aegina.

The pilgrimage of Met. Ilarion was followed soon after by a visit from His Grace Bishop Siluan of Hungary of the Romanian Orthodox Church, who celebrated the Divine Liturgy at Holy Trinity-St. Nektarios Monastery on Sunday.

The service was sung by the nuns of the monastery attended by numerous pilgrims, including Romanians.

During his sermon, Bp. Siluan spoke about the healing of the paralytic at the pool of Bethesda, as well as about the great healing gift, received together with holiness, by the Holy Hierarch Nektarios.
