Holy Cross Orthodox Monastery – Mono (Facebook)
Over the past decade, the Romanian Orthodox Monastery of the Holy Cross and St. Ephraim the New has been actively developing its property in Ontario.
After seven years in Toronto, the monastery acquired its present property in the small town of Mono, Ontario.
A sketch on the monastery website shows the brotherhood’s plans for the property, including a church, a summer altar, cells, a refectory, a well, a pavilion, and a gate:

However, before construction can begin on the church, the monastery must first pay off its property mortgage. According to Abbot Policarp, the remaining mortgage balance is $175,000, which they aim to pay off by August 1 of this year.
The monastery has launched a fundraising campaign asking for community support to achieve this goal. “With God’s help we are taking steps to build the main church of the holy Monastery. The first stage also includes paying off the monastery’s property,” writes Abbot Policarp.
The monastery has calculated that if 250 people each donate $700, they will be able to eliminate the mortgage debt by their target date. The fundraising appeal emphasizes that contributions of any size will make a difference in achieving this objective.
“In order to keep this project going, dear brethren and sisters in the Lord, your help and support are essential,” the appeal states. “Your contribution, no matter the size, will make an enormous difference in realizing this holy undertaking.”
Donations can be made via PayPal and Interac e-Transfer. See the monastery website for details.
