Zomba, Malawi, June 11, 2025
Fifty former Protestant members of the Mang’anja tribe received Orthodox Baptism during Pentecost celebrations at the parish of Blessed Matrona of Moscow in Zomba District, Malawi on June 8.
Fr. Joachim Bakali, dean of the South African Diocese parishes in Malawi, celebrated the Divine Liturgy and Baptism alongside Deacon Savva Kadjava, reports the Russian Orthodox Church’s African Exarchate.
Believers from the nearby parish of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker also attended the Liturgy.
The newly baptized candidates had completed a six-month catechization course before receiving the sacrament.
This follows two earlier services on April 19 and 30, when Fr. Joachim baptized 40 people from the Chewa tribe and 35 representatives of the Mang’anja tribe.
