The feast of the uncovering of the relics of St. Seraphim of Sarov drew thousands of Orthodox Christians to Holy Trinity-St. Seraphim Diveyevo Monastery on Friday, August 1, including 19 hierarchs and a host of clerics.
The service was led by His Eminence Metropolitan Gregory of Voskresensk, the Managing Director of the Moscow Patriarchate, on the square in front of the Holy Transfiguration Cathedral at the shrine containing St. Seraphim’s holy relics, which were transferred from the Holy Trinity Cathedral before the start of the service, reports the Nizhny Novgorod Metropolitanate.
After the Liturgy, Met. Gregory read greetings from His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia. Then Abbess Sergia presented Met. Gregory and Met. NIkandr of Vladimir and Suzdal with icons of the Appearance of the Most Holy Theotokos to St. Seraphim.
According to Igor Komarov, the Presidential Plenipotentiary Representative in the Volga Federal District, the monastery was visited by more than 600,000 people last year, and this number grows annually.
“Diveyevo is the spiritual heart of Russia. This is a place where everyone feels the grace and power of the Orthodox faith. The celebrations in honor of St. Seraphim of Sarov unite thousands of pilgrims, reminding us of the importance of preserving traditional values, mercy, and unity. This holiday is another step toward strengthening the spiritual and moral foundations of our society. I wish everyone peace, goodness, and the blessed help of St. Seraphim!” noted Chairman of the Legislative Assembly of the Nizhny Novgorod Province Evgeny Lyulin.
According to local law enforcement, 5,500 people participated in the feast day Liturgy.
