Romanian monastery donates 5+ tons of food supplies to families in northern Moldova

Bălți, Moldova, August 25, 2025

On Thursday, August 21, Archimandrite Nicodim (Gheorghiță), abbot of Hadâmbu Monastery in the Archdiocese of Iași, visited the Diocese of Bălți within the Romanian Orthodox Church’s Metropolis of Bessarabia (Moldova) with a donation of 5.07 tons of food supplies for families in need.

The donation included flour, cornmeal, oil, buckwheat, sugar, rice, pasta, and salt. Fr. Nicodim was accompanied by Protosinghel Iorest Goraș, secretary of the monastery, and was met in Bălți by Fr. Dorian Revenco, the local protopresbyter, reports the Diocese of Bălți.

The food supplies were distributed to large families, elderly persons, and those living alone in northern Moldova. His Grace Bishop Antoine of Bălți noted that these donations bring hope and light to thousands of Moldovan families who have benefited and will continue to benefit from the abbot’s support.

Fr. Nicodim expressed his joy at being able to help families facing material difficulties in Moldova, describing it as both a pleasure and a duty. He acknowledged that this assistance is made possible through the support of his spiritual children, who are good Christians and also love Moldova.

This marks Fr. Nicodim’s second major food donation to the Diocese of Bălți this summer. On June 26, he donated more than three tons of food products to the diocese.
