The relics of St. Filofteia from Curtea de Argeș, the Protectress of Romania, were carried in procession Friday in the city of Moinești, Bacău County, with over 5,000 pilgrims participating in the event.

The procession was part of the Moinești Deanery Days program, running from August 30 to September 16. The “Path of the Saints” procession was led by Vicar Bishop Teofil of the Roman and Bacău Archdiocese, reports the Basilica News Agency.

His Eminence Archbishop Ioachim of Roman welcomed the procession at the Cathedral of the Nativity of the Mother of God and St. Nicholas, where the Akathist to St. Filofteia was read. The hymn was specially composed by His Eminence for the occasion of bringing the saint’s relics to the Roman and Bacău Diocese.

The two hierarchs conducted a blessing service for the beginning of the school year and presented awards to nearly 300 young people who completed the previous year with perfect grades.

The reliquary containing St. Filofteia’s relics also includes particles from the relics of St. Ioanichie the New from Muscel, as well as particles from 11 saints who lived in the early Christian centuries, housed in a reliquary cross and placed in an authentic vestment of St. Filofteia of great religious and historical significance.

Abp. Ioachim called Friday evening’s event a historic moment lived in communion. “Let us thank God that we’ve come to experience this historic moment which some have marked with their soul, others with their faith, others with their knowledge and others with their work. Together we’ve accomplished the eighth sacrament, which is the sacrament of brotherhood, because I found myself in your souls, and you rested in our souls.”

His Eminence spoke about the important role of parents in raising and forming children. “How beautiful it is to become a saint as the Holy Martyr Filofteia did, how beautiful it is to be a parent of children who open their soul and heart to receive gifts from God. How beautiful it is to see children in front of the windows of their open souls waiting for the experience of the elders to place in their souls what is beautiful, edifying and good.”

The relics of St. Filofteia remained at the Cathedral of the Nativity of the Mother of God and St. Nicholas until the afternoon of September 6, when they were carried in procession to the parish in Enăchești for the reconsecration of the Church of St. Parascheva and St. Filofteia.
