Nairobi, September 19, 2025
40 people, both children and adults, were baptized in Nairobi yesterday after undergoing catechism.
The Sacrament was celebrated by Metropolitan Konstantin of Cairo and North Africa, head of the Russian Orthodox Church’s Exarchate of Africa, accompanied by head of the Exarchate’s Missionary Department, Fr. George Maximov, and local clergy at the parish of the Great Martyr Panteleimon, the Exarchate reports.
Following the Baptisms, the Metropolitan presented the parish with an altar cross, while the newly baptized and parishioners received crosses and icons. Children were also given candy.

Earlier, on September 14, Met. Konstantin celebrated the Divine Liturgy at the parish of St. John the Forerunner in the village of Nginyang, Baringo County. After the service, he presented the parish with an icon of the Savior and distributed crosses and icons to the faithful.
Baringo County, home to the Pokot people, is a remote and arid region where families live in poverty and often walk 15-30 miles to attend services. Orthodox Christianity was introduced there only recently by missionaries of the Russian Orthodox Church. While some have already been baptized, about 300 catechumens are currently preparing for Baptism.
