Faithful, monastics, and clergy from the Timișoara Diocese attended, along with guests from Serbia, Romania, and other countries.
Bazjaš Monastery was founded in the 13th century during the time of St. Sava, the first Archbishop of the autocephalous Serbian Church, when his brother King Stefan the First-Crowned Nemanjić ruled Serbia and King Andrew II ruled Hungary. After eight centuries, it continues to serve as a beacon of Orthodoxy and Serbian cultural identity in present-day Romania.
During the Liturgy, a message from His Holiness Patriarch Porfirije of Serbia was read, highlighting the significance of this major anniversary for the Serbian people in Romania and the Serbian Orthodox Church.
At the conclusion of the a service, a slava cake was blessed in honor of St. Joseph of Timișoara. Met. Lukijan addressed those gathered, congratulating them on the double celebration of the monastery’s jubilee and the diocesan feast day. As part of the festivities, the Metropolitan issued a special jubilee charter marking the 800th anniversary of Bazjaš Monastery, which will remain as a permanent spiritual and historical document.
Following the liturgical celebration, a cultural and artistic program was performed by groups from Romania and Serbia. The Union of Serbs in Romania then organized a gathering of Serbian folklore performances. At the celebratory meal, Prince Nikolaj of Romania offered a toast and conveyed greetings from his godfather, Crown Prince Filip Karađorđević. The cultural and artistic society Biseri from Veliki Semikluš presented a performance.
This celebration follows the 800th anniversary of the Serbian Orthodox Mesić Monastery in Banat last month.
