Halifax, England, October 30, 2025
A mass Baptism was celebrated at St. John the Baptist Serbian Orthodox Church in Halifax on Sunday, October 26.
In total, nine people were baptized, following a period of preparation for receiving the Holy Mystery. The Sacrament was celebrated by Protopresbyter Branimir prior to the Divine Liturgy, reports the Serbian Diocese of Britain and Ireland.
Among those baptized were all young people, including a young family with two small children. With the blessing of His Grace Bishop Nektarije, all the newly baptized retained their birth names so that, as English by nationality, they could witness to Orthodoxy in England. They will be assigned slava feast days to continue the tradition of the Serbian Church.
During the Liturgy, the newly baptized received Holy Communion for the first time.
Halifax is also home to the St. Hilda’s Antiochian Orthodox Mission, which is made up of mostly of a former Evangelical congregation, led by Deacon Caedmon—the former Evangelical pastor. In early September, 34 members were received into the Orthodox Church.
