More than 1,000 people gathered at the Antiochian Orthodox Church of St. Demetrios on November 9, to venerate a relic of St. Mary Magdalene brought from Mt. Athos.

The relic—the holy hand of St. Mary Magdalene, perhaps the greatest spiritual treasure of Simonopetra Monastery—was ceremonially transferred to the parish. Three priest-monks from Mt. Athos accompanied the relic, which was received by His Eminence Metropolitan Isaac of Central Europe and Germany, reports the Union of Orthodox Journalists.

The parish scout group led the procession, receiving the holy relic with trombones, drums, and wind instruments.

The celebration included archpriests, priests, deacons, and nuns, along with faithful from the Orthodox Church and Christians of other denominations who came together to venerate the saint.

The service began with Orthros, followed by the Divine Liturgy. Until 10:00 PM, the faithful had the opportunity to venerate the relic and ask for the intercession of St. Mary Magdalene.

Many of those present showed visible emotion, with tears of gratitude and joy as they approached the reliquary. Numerous families, young people, and children waited patiently in long lines, some holding icons and prayer ropes.

The scouts’ organization helped create a dignified and calm atmosphere, allowing all the faithful to receive the blessing in an orderly manner and with great respect.
