Knyazhichi, Kiev Province, Ukraine, December 8, 2025
An attorney and parishioners working alongside the monastic community successfully defended the Holy Transfiguration Monastery of the Boryspil Diocese of the canonical Ukrainian Orthodox Church in the village of Knyazhychi, Kiev Province, from an attempted illegal takeover.
A state executor from the Brovary division of the State Executive Service arrived at the monastery early in the morning with police support, intending to carry out eviction proceedings against the religious community. The official proceeded despite violating current legislation and failing to observe legally mandated timeframes, reports Orthodox Life.
During preparations for the eviction, the executor changed the monastery’s legal address without any legal grounds and without any request from the community.
Archpriest Nikita Chekman, serving as the community’s attorney, characterized the official’s actions as unlawful and illegal.
“According to current legislation, the resolution to open enforcement proceedings was dated November 24, 2025. Under the law, the ‘debtor,’ meaning the religious community, has a period of 10 working days. In this case, that period expires only on December 9, 2025. All the actions that took place today were illegal,” Archpriest Nikita Chekman stated.
The attorney emphasized that representatives of the religious organization have filed complaints against the state executor’s actions and have contacted law enforcement with a report of criminal wrongdoing.
“The struggle for the holy site will continue. We must act within the framework of current legislation while not allowing violations of rights,” Fr. Nikita said.
The brotherhood of Knyazhychi Monastery expressed gratitude to the attorney and parishioners for their assistance and support. The monks requested that believers continue to stand with the monastery in prayer.
