St. Tikhon’s Monastery in Waymart, Pennsylvania, will hold a conducting retreat February 6-8, led by Fr. Caleb Lewis, the monastery’s director of music.
The weekend retreat welcomes conductors of all skill levels and will include one-on-one instruction with Fr. Caleb, who serves on the faculty of St. Tikhon’s Orthodox Theological Seminary and directs music for both the monastery and seminary communities. Sessions will take place in the monastery’s music center, with Divine services in the monastery church throughout the weekend.
The schedule includes four sessions spanning Friday evening through Sunday afternoon, with Divine Liturgy on both Saturday and Sunday mornings and the All-Night Vigil on Saturday. A light breakfast and lunch will be provided on Saturday.
Before joining St. Tikhon’s, Fr. Caleb served as director of choirs at the University of California, Davis and worked with various Bay Area ensembles including the American Bach Soloists and San Francisco Bach Choir.
Registration is $150 for full participation, with a discounted $75 rate available for students and those wishing to observe.
