The “Orthodox Christian Studies Center” at Fordham University will continue its LGBTQ focus this February with its 2nd annual “Orthodox Inclusion Weekend.”

The event was announced on X by the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America’s Director of Archives, Aristomenis Papadimitriou.

“LGBTQ+ Orthodox Christians exist,” writes Papadimitriou. “So do their families and friends. That’s why @FordhamOrthodox is hosting a weekend in NYC focused on critical questions, prayer, and community.”

No date or location is given in the announcement. Those interested are asked to contact the Orthodox Christian Studies Center at Fordham.

The Fordham Orthodox Center is also partnering with St. Vladimir’s Seminary for an event in honor of Fr. John Meyendorff in February.

The Orthodox Christian Studies Center has long focused on the study of LGBTQ issues. It sponsors the blog Public Orthodoxy, which has become known since its inception in September 2015 not only for giving a forum to conversation, but for giving space to positions, especially on matters within the LGBTQ sphere, that are incompatible with Orthodox teaching.

In January 2018, the Center received a grant from the British Council in the USA to conduct an official study of “LGBTQ rights alongside Eastern Orthodox identity.”

In August 2019, it organized a conference at Oxford that gathered clergy, scholars, LGBTQ activists, and even a self-proclaimed “vampire” and drag show host to discuss their opinions on the contemporary issues of sex, gender, and sexuality in relation to the Orthodox Church.
