Englewood, New Jersey, February 19, 2026
His Eminence Metropolitan Saba of New York has announced the Antiochian Orthodox Christian Archdiocese of North America’s annual Food for Hungry People and Charitable Outreach Campaign for Great Lent 2026.
Now in its 52nd year, the appeal calls on parishes and faithful throughout the Archdiocese to support food programs and humanitarian initiatives in local communities. More than $210,000 was raised last year.
In his announcement, Met. Saba cites Matthew 25:35—For I was hungry and you gave Me food, I was thirsty and you gave Me drink—as the Scriptural foundation for the campaign.
The Metropolitan urges the faithful not only to make monetary donations through their local parishes but also to engage in direct personal service to those in need, quoting St. John Chrysostom: “Many can give money to those in need, but to personally serve the needy readily, out of love, and in a fraternal spirit, requires a truly great soul.”
“Your contributions will provide concentrated support to food programs and humanitarian initiatives in local parishes and communities that show the Gospel in action,” His Eminence writes.
Donations are to be made through local parishes. Great Lent this year concludes with Pascha on April 12.
