Photo: imthiras.gr Metropolitan Epiphanios (Artemis), formerly of the Diocese of Thira, Amorgos, and Nisoi of the Church of Greece reposed in the Lord on the first day of Great Lent yesterday at the age of 92.
He was “a teacher of truth, a minister of the Mysteries of God, a spiritual father for the people, a model of humility and self-sacrifice. In the blessed vineyard of the Cyclades Islands entrusted to him by the Lord, he cultivated the word of truth, nourished the flock with the food of the knowledge of God and dedicated himself entirely to the ministry of the Church, God, and men,” writes the Metropolis of Thira.
His funeral will be held tomorrow, February 25, at the Church of St. George in Katapola, Amorgos.

Metropolitan Epiphanios was born in Vroutsi, Amorgos, in 1934.
He was ordained deacon in 1958 and priest in 1964, the same year he received his degree from the Theological School of the University of Athens.
He served as a preacher in the Holy Metropolis of Thira, Amorgos and the Islands, and as abbot of the Holy Monastery of the Panagia Hozoviotissa of Amorgos from 1965 to 2003.
On January 9, 2003, he was elected Metropolitan of Thira, Amorgos, and the Islands by the Holy Synod of the Church of Greece, and was consecrated bishop on January 11, 2003.
On August 28, 2021, he submitted his resignation to the Holy Synod, citing his advanced age.
He is remembered by the Metropolis as a worthy bishop, distinguished by genuine piety. He contributed to the spiritual enlightenment of the people with his preaching, his consistency in ecclesiological and liturgical matters, and the ordination of many clergy.
He is also remembered for his great philanthropic work.
