The Romanian Orthodox Archdiocese of Suceava and Rădăuți gifted approximately 500 icons of the Mother of God to mothers and medical staff at hospitals across Suceava County on March 8 in honor of International Women’s Day.

The distribution was organized as part of the Pro-Life Department’s “Month for Life” program, which promotes the value of life, family, and motherhood, reports the Basilica News Agency.

Chaplains serving in the county’s hospitals delivered the icons to mothers in obstetrics-gynecology and neonatology wards, as well as to medical personnel, accompanying each gift with words of encouragement and blessing.

“The gesture was received with emotion and joy, with the icon of the Mother of God serving as a sign of protection, hope, and spiritual strength for each recipient. For the mothers in hospital, the icon is also a call to prayer and to entrusting their children to the protection of the Mother of God,” the diocese writes.

With this initiative, the diocese “sought to convey a message of appreciation, gratitude, and blessing for all women, as well as recognition for the medical staff who serve human life and health with dedication.”
