In the village of Ruseni in Neamț County, a family with 10 children is celebrating the completion of a two-year project that transformed their home into a fully functional dwelling and provided them with a vehicle suited to their needs.

The work was carried out as part of the Gift for Children Project, which is part of the St. Stelian Solidarity Program for Families with Many Children, run by the Pro-Life Department of the Romanian Orthodox Archdiocese of Iași, reports Doxologia.

The Rica family has 12 members. The mother, a teacher, dedicated herself to raising and educating the children, while the father earns a modest income working at a plant. The family initially lived in an old two-room house. On the advice of their parish priest, Fr. Cătălin-Constantin Dămian, the father started building a new house, but limited funds meant construction progressed slowly. By the time they were included in the project, the family was living in three unfinished rooms with no kitchen or bathroom.

With donor support, essential work was completed: demolition of old structures, finishing of the ground floor and attic, furnishing of all rooms, installation of a kitchen with appliances, an ecological septic tank, a shelter for animals, and a heating system.

The family also received 9-seat van for taking the children to school, medical visits, and daily activities.

Since 2019, the Archdiocese of Iași has built or rehabilitated houses for six large families in Iași, Botoșani and Neamț counties. The Pro-Life Department is currently working on a seventh house.

OrthoChristian has reported on many such projects throughout Romania, including houses built by the Romanian Orthodox Christian Students Association (ASCOR) of Iaşi.
