The holy icon and relics of St. Gregory Palamas, Archbishop of Thessaloniki, were processed through the central streets surrounding the Metropolitan Cathedral of St. Gregory Palamas in Thessaloniki on March 8, during the cathedral’s annual feast day celebrations.
The two-day feast was held on March 7–8, coinciding with the Second Sunday of Great Lent. On Saturday evening, the local hierarch Metropolitan Philotheos of Thessaloniki was joined by several Greek hierarchs and numerous clergy for Vespers. A large number of local and international pilgrims attended the service, reports the Metropolis of Thessaloniki.
On the feast day itself, a Hierarchical Divine Liturgy was celebrated, presided over by Metropolitan Markos of Chios, with the concelebration of Bishop Ioannis of Skiathos and Metropolitan Philotheos of Thessaloniki. The sermon was delivered by Metropolitan Markos, who spoke on the day’s Gospel reading and on the theological legacy of St. Gregory Palamas and his significance for Thessaloniki.
Following the Liturgy, the procession with the icon and relics of the saint took place through the surrounding streets.
