Wayne, West Virginia, March 25, 2026
The construction and beautification of the new church at Holy Cross Monastery (ROCOR) in Wayne, West Virginia, hit a joyous milestone last week.
On Friday, March 20, during the Fourth Week of Great Lent and the week of the Veneration of the Holy Cross, golden cupolas (onion domes) and crosses were installed atop the domes of the new church, the monastery reports.
The cupolas and crosses had arrived at the monastery from overseas in July 2025, following years of delays. The following month, during an episcopal visit to the monastery, His Grace Bishop Luke of Syracuse blessed them on the feast of the monastery’s patron, the Holy Great Martyr and Healer Panteleimon.
The installation on March 20 coincided with the day the Precious Cross is returned to the Altar after resting in the center of the church throughout the Fourth Week of Lent.
The new church has been many years in the making. Ground was broken on November 9, 2020, and His Eminence Metropolitan Nicholas blessed the foundation on May 24, 2023. The brotherhood served the first Divine Liturgy in the new church on December 29, 2025.
The construction project is ongoing, and the monastery website lists several ways to donate toward its continuation.
