A family of five from the Greek Orthodox Metropolis of Boston is living in a hotel with their three young children and two dogs after a fire destroyed their home earlier this month.
The blaze broke out on May 4th in the garage of the Newman family’s residence, where they had lived for nearly seven years. Strong winds and dry conditions caused the fire to spread rapidly into the kitchen and attic, ultimately impacting all areas of the home and rendering it uninhabitable, the Metropolis reports.
Thankfully, the family—including the children James, 12, Michael, 3, and 9-month-old Nina—escaped safely.
Insurance assessors have told the family their home is likely “a total loss.” The family is adjusting to temporary hotel accommodations while managing the day-to-day needs of three children and their pets.
The Greek Orthodox Metropolis of Boston has called on the faithful throughout the region to keep the family in their prayers and offer support as they begin the process of rebuilding.
“During moments such as these, our faith reminds us of the importance of compassion, generosity, and standing beside one another in times of need,” the Metropolis stated in an appeal to its community.
Those wishing to help can visit the family’s give in kind support page, which offers several options for assistance. Supporters can send CareCards that recipients can convert into gift cards for over 200 retailers. Digital Visa gift cards and direct monetary donations through PayPal or Venmo are also accepted through the platform.
The family has expressed gratitude for the outpouring of messages, love, and support they have received from family, friends, and the broader community as they work to move forward and rebuild their lives.
