Archbishop Elpidophoros of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America was briefly hospitalized following the services for Pentecost yesterday.
After leading students from Holy Cross Greek Orthodox School of Theology in Boston to the Holy Mountain earlier in the week, the Archbishop was concelebrating with Metropolitan Ioustinos of Nea Krini and Kalamaria and Bishop Ioannis of Phocaea at St. Nicholas Cathedral in Aretsou, the Archdiocese reports.
Following the Vespers of Pentecost with the kneeling prayers, Abp. Elpidophoros “felt unwell due to his particularly demanding schedule and the excessive heat of recent days.”
Other outlets, such as the National Herald and Knews, report that the Archbishop fainted in church.
He was transported by ambulance to the 424 General Military Hospital of Thessaloniki, where he underwent various examinations and was deemed to be in good health and was soon discharged.
