His Grace Bishop Nikolai (Soraich), a retired hierarch in the Russian Orthodox Church Outside of Russia, has been discharged from the hospital following a diagnosis of sepsis, All Saints Russian Orthodox Church in Las Vegas announced on Tuesday.

According to the parish, Bp. Nikolai came to church this past Sunday already feeling unwell. After the reading of the Holy Gospel, he was unable to continue and remained seated for the rest of the service. He was obliged to unvest, and immediately following the Magnification he was taken to the hospital, where he was diagnosed with sepsis.

In a subsequent announcement, the parish reported that the bishop has since been discharged. He has been prescribed a 14-day course of antibiotics, which he will continue during his recovery at home.

The parish notes that it had received hundreds of messages from the faithful, including from San Francisco, New Jersey, Russia, and the Holy Land, all of which were shared with the bishop. Though he is now home, his recovery is ongoing, and he continues to bear the cross of his battle with cancer. The parish asks the faithful to continue praying for his complete healing, strength, and comfort, as well as for all those caring for him.

Bishop Nikolai, 77, served as the Orthodox Church in America’s Bishop of Alaska from 2002 to 2008. In March 2014, he was received by the Russian Orthodox Church Outside Russia as a retired bishop.
