Metropolitan Mitrofan of Gorlovka and Slavyansk wounded in Ukrainian drone strike

Moscow, August 24, 2026

On August 23, 2026, the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) launched a drone strike on the grounds of the Epiphany Cathedral in the city of Gorlovka, reports Patriarchia.ru.

Metropolitan Mitrofan of Gorlovka and Slavyansk was wounded in the attack. He received professional medical care, and there is no threat to his life.

Protodeacon Roman Stepin, a cleric of the Epiphany Cathedral in Gorlovka, and two volunteers from the Patriarchal Humanitarian Mission—Sergey Solodkov and Ekaterina Kuptsova—also sustained minor injuries; they did not require hospitalization.

His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Rus’ expressed his condolences.
