Orthodoxy’s rapid growth in America continued this weekend with another mass Baptism, this time at St. Basil the Great Orthodox Church (ROCOR) in St. Louis, Missouri.
Ten people, ranging from infants to adults, were baptized at the parish on Saturday, August 29, the parish reports.
Fr. Daniel Simpson, assistant priest at the parish, celebrated the Sacrament.
St. Basil’s was founded in 1985 by a group of Orthodox Christians from several local parishes seeking a traditional, non-ethnic place of worship. The parish moved from the Greek Old Calendarists to ROCOR in 1992. In 2015, the community built the first traditional Slavic-style temple constructed in the region in over a century. St. Basil’s serves a young and ethnically diverse congregation, with converts making up more than half its members, and also supports two nearby missions, one in Cape Girardeau and another in Montgomery City.
The parish celebrated its 40th anniversary in May 2025.
