A parish of the Orthodox Church in America in Texas received several people into the Orthodox Church on Sunday and still has dozens of catechumens preparing for illumination.
St. Sava Orthodox Church in Allen, Texas, writes:
May God grant many years to the newly illumined servants of God, John, Lucia, Esther, Irene, and Gwen! Currently, we have 55 catechumens at St. Sava! Glory to God!
St. Sava’s, led by Fr. Photius Avant, is one of the many booming churches across America. OrthoChristian earlier reported that 33 people were received there on Lazarus Saturday, and another 11 on Holy Saturday.
The history of St. Sava dates to 1988, when Fr. Bogdan Djurdjulov established a parish to serve the communities of Allen, Plano, McKinney, Frisco, and beyond. In December 2009, the parish purchased its current property, initially serving in a temporary mobile structure.

A new church was built in 2021, with the former church now being used as a temporary parish hall. A capital campaign is currently underway to help the church build a permanent parish hall.
