The Moldovan Orthodox Church has handed out more than 100 backpacks stocked with school supplies to children from struggling families across the country, part of a campaign blessed by His Eminence Metropolitan Vladimir.

The initiative, called Help a Child Go to School!, ran from July 15 to August 31 and marked the seventh edition of the Synodal Social and Charitable Activity Sector’s effort to support kids from socially vulnerable families ahead of the new school year, the Moldovan Church reports.

The backpacks, filled with school supplies, toys, and other gifts, were handed out by Hieromonk Macarie Crudu, chairman of the Synodal Social and Charitable Activity Sector, along with members of the St. Sofian of Antim youth volunteer group.

The Church’s charitable work also reached families caring for bedridden relatives or dealing with health problems of their own, with more than 10 families receiving medical assistance through the campaign.

The Synodal Social and Charitable Activity Sector thanked everyone who supports the Church’s social and missionary work, saying their generosity helps bring relief to children, families, and others facing hardship.
