The Antiochian House of Studies has announced a forthcoming Master of Eastern Orthodox Canon Law, a fully online graduate degree aimed at giving clergy, lay leaders, educators, and researchers a rigorous grounding in the Church’s canonical tradition.
The degree is a 51-credit program, made up of 39 core credits, 6 elective credits, and a 6-credit thesis, spread across a six-semester curriculum, the school reports.
Coursework covers the theological foundations of canon law, the corpus of the holy canons, Church governance, marriage and family, clergy and monastic life, the Holy Mysteries, ecclesiastical courts and discipline, Church-state relations, and contemporary canonical questions.
Students will also study canonical Greek to work directly with primary canonical texts from the early, Byzantine, and modern periods.
The program is being developed and submitted within AHOS’s existing academic and accreditation framework, and is designed to serve students across the United States, Canada, and beyond. AHOS says the degree will prepare graduates for teaching, research, publishing, translation, diocesan and parish support, and Church administration.
The school anticipates launching the program in fall 2027.
