His Eminence Metropolitan Vladimir of Chișinău and All Moldova sat down to lunch with the poor and needy at the Holy Grand Duchess Elizabeth Almshouse on Saturday, listening to each person’s troubles and giving them his time and attention.
Staff at the charity center described the visit in a post about the September 26 meal. “It was a joy to see him among needy people, sitting with them at lunch, listening to what they had to say,” they write. Without any rush, each guest was able to speak about what pains him, the worries he carries, and what he needs.
“These are moments that aren’t measured in big things,” the almshouse says. “For a person who’s been through trials, the fact that he’s heard, that someone stops beside him and looks at him with love can be a true consolation.”

The almshouse has been working for nearly ten years to be close to those who need help. More than 400,000 meals have reached the tables of the needy in that time, and with them have come the gifts of many people who chose to share some of what God gave them.
The staff note that they may not always know every donor, and that those who receive the food may never learn who put the bread on their table. “But God knows them,” they write.
“We want people who come to the Holy Grand Duchess Elizabeth Almshouse to find not only what they lack for today, but also hope for tomorrow,” the center writes.
“May God bless the giver, strengthen the one in need, and help us all not to pass one another by indifferently,” the post concludes.
