A little more than a year after launching a capital campaign, the community of Holy Apostles Greek Orthodox Church in Shoreline, Washington, has celebrated its first Divine Liturgy in its newly expanded church.
The service took place on Sunday, October 11. In a post about the occasion, the church writes: “This is the day that the Lord has made, let us rejoice and be glad in it!” The parish adds, “We are grateful to celebrate our first Liturgy in our newly expanded church. It was a very exciting and joyous morning for all. Glory to God!”
The building project dates back to 2018, when initial planning discussions were held. In August 2025, the church, led by Fr. Rob Spaliatsos, announced a capital campaign to renovate and enlarge its facilities. In its first post about the effort, the parish explains that it has flourished since 1999 and has outgrown its current building, which also needs critical repairs. The initial goal was to raise $250,000 in six months, and ultimately another $1.5 million to break ground.
In that post, the church says it has served the Seattle metro area for over two decades. It lists counseling for people struggling with addiction, relationships, grief and hunger among its outreach, along with packed lunches for local public schools, a youth choir and support for homeschooling families. The parish also hosts a Montessori school.
The groundbreaking and blessing of the new construction were held in December 2025.
In August of this year, a dome was placed on the roof. The parish’s previous building didn’t have one because it wasn’t originally built as an Orthodox church.
“In our tradition, the dome represents Heaven, typically written with Christ Pantocrator at its center, looking down upon His Church,” a post on the church site explains. “It’s why people instinctively look upward when they enter an Orthodox church.”
