The parish of St. Anthony the Great Orthodox Church (Orthodox Church in America) in Bozeman, Montana, celebrated a milestone in the construction of its new church this week.

On Sunday, June 28, following the Divine Liturgy, Fr. David Morrison blessed the central dome for the new church, which has been under construction since 2024. And on Monay, July 6, the dome was lifted up and placed on the church building.

The parish has been growing quickly in recent years. In February, OrthoChristian reported that 10 people were received into the Church and another 15 were enrolled as catechumens at St. Anthony’s in a single weekend.

More recently, the church’s social media posts indicate that at least 9 were received into the Church and 10 were enrolled as catechumens throughout the month of June. The parish bulletin for the week of July 4–10 lists 39 catechumens altogether.

St. Anthony the Great Orthodox Church dates back to the 1990s. OCA Priests served the area for over five years before the community was formally recognized as a mission in 1999, prior to which, local faithful had to travel one to two hours to Billings or Butte for services.

The parish was served by Fr. Peter Tobias from 2001 to 2012, followed briefly by Fr. Damian Kuolt, and since June 2013 has been led by Fr. David Morrison. As the mission grew, parishioners purchased land west of Bozeman and built their first worship space in 2014, and in 2017 the community graduated from mission status to become a full parish. St. Anthony’s is composed largely of converts, many of whom first encountered Orthodoxy there.

Construction of a new church with a capacity of 350 people began in 2024. It is planned to complete the structure and begin interior plaster work this spring.
