Asheville, North Carolina, November 2, 2026
The weekend of October 24–25 was momentous for Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church in Asheville, North Carolina, as more than 20 people were united to Christ in the Orthodox Church.
“This past weekend was a joyful occasion for our parish community at Holy Trinity! On Saturday, October 24, we welcomed 23 individuals into the Holy Orthodox Church through Holy Baptism, followed by another individual through Holy Chrismation on Sunday, October 25,” the parish reported on social media.
At the same time, there are still about 40 people currently going through the parish’s catechism program. The church is led by Fr. Ioannis Capones.
“We give thanks to God for these blessings and pray that He continues to guide and strengthen all those beginning their journey in the Orthodox faith. Glory to God for all things!” the church writes.

Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church was founded in Asheville in 1922 by a small community of Greek immigrants seeking to preserve their Orthodox faith. With no church of their own, they first worshiped in local churches and private homes.
By the early 1930s, the parish was renting space in the Moskins Building for worship and Greek School. Later that decade, it purchased its first permanent home at 66 Market Street.
In 1953, Holy Trinity bought the M.V. Moore estate on Cumberland Avenue and turned it into a community center. The present church was built between 1957 and 1958, and Fr. Nicholas Spirakis arrived the following year as the first full-time priest. A major renovation in 2007 renewed the church while preserving its Byzantine character.
Beginning in the fall of 2024, the parish entered a new period of renewal under Fr. Ioannis Capones, investing in sacred iconography and the beautification of its grounds and expanding ministries for children, youth, adults, and families.
