Holy Dormition Monastery to be Built in Thailand

Bangkok, July 20, 2010

His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia has supported a proposal by the representative of the Russian Orthodox Church in Thailand, Archimandrite Oleg (Cherepanin) to build the Holy Dormition Monastery for men in the Province of Ratchaburi, Thailand, where the construction of a church dedicated to the Dormition of the Mother of God, together with living and work quarters, is in process.

In connection with this, and to encourage a speedy beginning of Divine services, the head of the Russian Orthodox Church blessed Fr. Oleg to serve a lesser consecration of the Dormition Church in Ratchaburi.

The greater consecration of the Dormition Church will be served when the Trinity Church in Phuket will also be consecrated, at the completion of its construction (estimated to be in the year 2011).

Archimandrite Oleg (Cherepanin) was blessed to begin work on the organization of a monastic community for the new monastery, having presented the candidates for review by the Secretariat of the Moscow Patriarchate for foreign institutions.

In connection with the planned opening of the Holy Dormition Monastery, representatives of the Russian Orthodox Church in Thailand and the Fund for the Orthodox Church in Thailand are offering entry to men of any nationality who are over twenty-one years of age, Orthodox Christian, and wish to lead a monastic way of life, beginning as novices in the monastery.
