Patriarchate of Georgia makes a statement in connection with the events in the Ukraine

Tbilisi, February 20, 2014

The Patriarchate of Georgia has spread a special statement in connection with the confrontation of the opposition and the authorities in the Ukraine, reports Blagovest.Info with the reference to the Pirveli information agency. The statement stresses that the Patriarchate considers it necessary that the opposing sides make steps towards each other so as to avoid more dramatic further developments.

"The events which are now happening in Kiev once again indicate how fragile the peace on our planet is. It is clear to everybody that the ongoing processes pose a real threat, especially as there are so many victims and injured people on the Euromaidan.

We sympathize with all our hearts with the families of victims, including the family of the fallen citizen of Georgia Zurab Khurtsia, and we are offering up prayers for his and the others’ immortal souls. At the same time, we consider it necessary that the opposing sides take steps towards each other so as to avoid even more dramatic developments.

Georgia has special relations with the Ukraine; so, naturally, we take the tragic events hard and we are praying to the Lord for the victory of discretion and justice, and for the triumph of peace in this country," stated the Patriarchate of Georgia.
