The photo exhibition, “Spiritual links between Russia and Greece: Valaam and Mt. Athos” will take place at the Moscow House of Photography from November 10 to December 1. The exposition will be represented in Athens, Greece.
The spiritual link between the Valaam Monastery – the Northern “Russian Mt. Athos” – and Holy Mount Athos itself in Greece has not been interrupted for centuries. About 60 photographs of the late 19th century from the albums: “Views of Valaam Monastery” (1887) and “The monasteries and sketes of Holy Mount Athos from the album of photographs of Grand Duke Constantine (Konstantin) Konstantinovich Romanov” (1881) will be displayed at the exhibition.
The exhibition is accompanied by texts from the works written by Russian authors of the “Silver age”: Boris Zaytsev and Ivan Shmelev. The exhibition is taking place with the support of the National Library of Russia in St. Petersburg as well as the Museum of Photography in Thessaloniki.
