A new ambulance specially-equipped to transport patients in serious conditions has been purchased for Moscow’s St. Alexei Hospital, under the auspices of the Russian Orthodox Church, with funds that were donated to honor the anniversary of the enthronement of His Holiness Patriarch Kirill in February.
The new ambulance was blessed on Friday by His Grace Bishop Panteleimon of Orekhovo-Zuevo, the head of the Synodal Department for Charity and Social Work, reports the hospital’s press service.
As has become a new tradition, Pat. Kirill asked that donations be made to the hospital, where he is the Chairman of the Board of Trustees, in lieu of flowers in honor of the anniversary of his enthronement. He has made the same call for his birthday and name’s day as well. He then blessed the purchase of the ambulance with the funds gathered.
The patriarch began this blessed tradition in November 2016 for his birthday. He has also asked parishes to direct funds towards Syrian relief in honor of his May name’s day.
The new ambulance “is equipped with modern equipment that allows for the transportation of patients in very serious conditions. It’s especially important because we often have to transfer seriously ill patients from other hospitals, often even from other cities for hospitalization in the intensive care unit or palliative care unit of our hospital,” said chief doctor Alexei Yurievich Zarov.
The Central Clinical Hospital of St. Alexis the Metropolitan of Moscow is a multi-discipline medical institution that can serve up to 275 people. It is the largest medical institution of the Russian Orthodox Church. Examinations and treatment for all patients, of any religious affiliation, are free of charge.
