His Beatitude Archbishop Leo of Helsinki and All Finland will arrive in the U.S. on July 22 at the invitation of His Beatitude Metropolitan Tikhon of Washington and All America and Canada (Orthodox Church in America).

Abp. Leo will participate as a guest speaker at the OCA’s 19th All-American Council, running from July 23-27 in St. Louis, Missouri, reports the site of the Finnish Orthodox Church.

The theme of the council is “For the Life of the World.” The Finnish primate will address the council on Thursday, July 26, and his speech will be published the next day in English, Finnish, and Russian.

Met. Tikhon had visited Finland in early 2016 at the invitation of Abp. Leo, along with a delegation from the OCA. The two primates concelebrated the Divine Liturgy on February 28 at New Valaam Monastery, and Met. Tikhon addressed the opening session of the Finnish Church’s annual clergy conference on the topic “The Development of Monastic Vocations.”

While there, Met. Tikhon also signed an agreement with Abp. Leo pledging mutual cooperation in five important areas of Church life: seminary exchange programs, a dialogue on ethical issues, pastoral care and work with Nordic indigenous peoples, youth exchanges, and clergy and monastic exchanges.

Finally, let us return to Mount Tabor. A guarantee of the unity of Local Orthodox Churches is the Divine Liturgy, the one Eucharist. The Orthodox Church in America is in Eucharistic communion with the rest of the Orthodox Churches. Thus we also could be taken to Mount Tabor today to celebrate this heavenly sacrament. And even though it would be good to be there, we need to return to the world. It is our task to return to the world and bring light to darkness—that light which this world cannot give. Only this light may enlighten even the darkness of hell. This is our task: to serve, not to be served.
