Cities and towns throughout Romania have been affected by serious flooding over the past week. Many stretches of national highways have been closed in the aftermath of a serious storm on Tuesday, with Covasna, Suceava, Vrancea, Cluj and Arad counties facing the most difficult situations.

According to the Siver Post, about 200 households in the western Romanian Arad County are completely under water. Rescue services are working overtime to mitigate the effects of the flooding.

During this time of crisis, the Arad Archdiocese of the Romanian Orthodox Church has announced that it will be collecting money and humanitarian aid, including water and non-perishable foods, to support those affected by the flooding in Arad County.

According to the Romanian Orthodox Church’s Basilica News Agency, the collection will take place July 22-29 in all parishes and monasteries of the diocese.

“We urge the clergy and the good-hearted faithful of the Archdiocese of Arad to contribute as able to those in great need,” the archdiocesan press release reads.

The archdiocese also stated that prayers for the afflicted will be offered in all churches, and also for the Lord to reward the endeavors and sacrifices of the clergy and faithful who are helping those suffering.

Last week, the Synodal Department for Charity of the Russian Orthodox Church transferred $2,345 to the Nerchinsk Diocese to organize assistance for flood victims in the Transbaikal Region. A fundraiser was also organized throughout the diocese, and a website, SOS Transbaikal, with current information about victims’ needs and videos from the scene.
